Cultural Sites
Orléans is a city where French history and everyday life meet along the banks of the Loire. At its heart rises the Cathédrale Sainte-Croix, a monumental Gothic cathedral closely tied to the story of Joan of Arc. Nearby, the Maison de Jeanne d’Arc brings her legacy to life through exhibitions and archives. The lively Place du Martroi, dominated by an equestrian statue of Joan of Arc, anchors the historic center, while the Musée des Beaux-Arts d’Orléans showcases fine art from the Renaissance to the 19th century. Together, these landmarks capture Orléans’ blend of medieval heritage, artistic richness, and vibrant urban culture.
Châteaux Tours
The countryside around Orléans and Sandillon is dotted with some of the Loire Valley’s most impressive châteaux. The iconic Château de Chambord stuns with its vast scale and inventive Renaissance architecture, while the medieval Château de Sully-sur-Loire guards the eastern gateway to the Loire Valley. Closer to Orléans, the Château de Meung-sur-Loire blends royal history with elegant gardens, and the Château de Châteauneuf-sur-Loire offers a more intimate glimpse into aristocratic life. Nearby, the family-friendly Château de La Ferté-Saint-Aubin is known for its furnished interiors and playful activities.
Leisure Activities
Scenic cycling routes wind through the peaceful countryside and along the riverbanks, while walking trails lead you into tranquil forests and nature reserves rich with wildlife. The nearby Loire River offers opportunities for kayaking and gentle riverside picnics.
Cycling Tours
The renowned La Loire à Vélo route passes nearby, guiding riders through picturesque villages, historic sites, and stretches of unspoiled nature. Along the way, you can follow the gentle curves of the Loire River, cycle beside canals, or venture into the shaded trails of the Forêt d'Orléans.
Wine Tours
Wine tours offer an introduction to the understated charm of the eastern Loire Valley wine region, where smaller producers craft elegant, terroir-driven wines.
